5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione is a molecule that belongs to the group of mesomeric transition compounds. It is a solid at room temperature and can be used in cross-coupling reactions with a variety of metal catalysts. This compound was used in the synthesis of oxoindoles, which are potent inhibitors of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase. 5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione has also been shown to inhibit carbamazepine metabolism in humans.
