3-Benzyl-2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one is a chemical compound that is classified as an aromatic heterocycle. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of HIV infection and cancer. 3-Benzyl-2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one is used to prepare samples for biochemical analysis and has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by blocking the synthesis of DNA. The compound also inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by altering their cellular membranes. 3BTT was found to be more cytotoxic than other compounds in this class because it causes cell death through chloride ion release and oxidative stress. This chemical has optical properties that are consistent with an aromatic heterocycle.
