5-Bromonicotinohydrazide is an antibacterial agent that has been shown to have activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This compound crystallizes as a white powder in the form of needles, with a melting point of 190°C. The molecular weight is 188.2 g/mol, and the chemical formula is C6H3BrN0H. It also has antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli. 5-Bromonicotinohydrazide is used for the treatment of infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus. 5-Bromonicotinohydrazide inhibits cell wall synthesis in bacterial cells by binding to the enzyme penicillin amidase, which causes hydrolysis of peptidoglycan precursors into amino acids and monomers, resulting in cell death.
