This compound has been found to be effective in treating metastatic colorectal cancer in experimental models, as well as skin cancers in mice. 5-Benzyl-1-(2-hydroxyethoxymethyl)uracil is also an inhibitor of HIV infection, which may be due to its ability to block the synthesis of uridine. The symptoms that are caused by this drug are not yet known.
