4-Bromo-2,6-dichlorophenol is a chemical substance that is used to make peroxides. This compound has been shown to be an effective polymerizing agent for polyethers and crosslinked compounds. Crystals of 4-bromo-2,6-dichlorophenol are obtained by heating a mixture of the dichloride with trioxide in the presence of elemental chlorine. Elemental analysis of 4-bromo-2,6-dichlorophenol shows that it contains fluorine (0.1%), bromine (8%), chlorine (39%), and carbon (54%). The molecular weight is 226.4 g/mol. The melting point is 134 degrees Celsius and the boiling point is 290 degrees Celsius at atmospheric pressure. 4-Bromo-2,6-dichlorophenol can also be obtained as anhydrous crystals from toluene or pyridine.
