It binds to isoforms of protein kinase C and inhibits the activity of protein kinase C. Tert-butyl (4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)phenyl)carbamate has been shown to have strong inhibitory potency against human tumor cells in cell culture assays with IC50 values as low as 1 nanomolar. The compound has also been shown to selectively inhibit certain cancer cell lines in mice with no effect on normal tissue or other cancerous cells.
