1-Bromo-4-chloro-2-methylbenzene is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CHBrCl. It is a colorless liquid that has been used in chemical experiments and as an intermediate for organic synthesis. 1-Bromo-4-chloro-2-methylbenzene may be synthesized by the reaction of bromine with 2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride in the presence of sulfuric acid. The proton NMR spectrum of this compound displays three resonances at δ 4.42 (1H), δ 3.72 (1H), and δ 3.62 (1H). The coupling constant J(CH) was found to be 0.9 Hz, while the coupling constants J(CH) were found to be 1.2 Hz and 1.7 Hz respectively for protons α to HBr and α to Cl.
