3-Bromo-4-chloropyrrolopyridine is a pyrrole with a nitrogen atom in the 3rd position from the carbonyl. It can be synthesized by reacting 4-chloro-7-azaindole with bromine and formaldehyde. The synthesis of this compound has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth by binding to DNA, RNA and proteins. This compound is also able to release chloride ions, which may be responsible for its cytotoxicity. This drug has cisplatin as a structural analog, which is an anticancer drug used in the treatment of many cancers including prostate adenocarcinoma. 3-Bromo-4-chloropyrrolopyridine binds to DNA via hydrogen bonding interactions and forms a covalent bond with the purine ring of guanine residues on DNA. The vibrational spectra of this molecule have been found by Raman spectroscopy to be centrosy
