3-Bromo-2-phenylpyridine is a cyclic organic compound that can be synthesized by the cycloisomerization of 3-bromophenylpyridine. The cycloisomerization reaction is catalyzed by trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, which is an electrophile. Quinolines, which are substituted phenylpyridines, undergo this reaction to form 3-bromo-2-phenylpyridine. Transition metal cations are required for this reaction to take place, and they catalyze the transition state of the carbocation intermediate. This process causes a change in oxidation state and allows for the formation of new bonds in the molecule.
