4-Benzyloxybenzyl chloride (4B) is a chemical substance that has been shown to be a potential therapeutic for the treatment of breast cancer. 4B inhibits the activity of tyrosine kinase enzymes, which are involved in the formation of new blood vessels. It also has been shown to bind to estrogen receptors and is therefore a potential candidate for hormone therapy. 4B can be synthesized by reacting benzaldehyde with 4-chloro-1,2-diphenylethane in the presence of sodium methoxide and potassium carbonate in an organic solvent. The compound can then be purified using column chromatography or recrystallization techniques.
