4-Bromo-1-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one is an organic compound. It is a dichloride, which can be obtained by refluxing 1,4-dibromopyridine with phosphorus pentachloride in the presence of nitrogen gas. This process also produces paraquat and iodomethane as byproducts. The dichloride can be reacted with potassium carbonate in liquid ammonia to produce a mixture of potassium bromide and 4-bromo-1-methylpyridinium bromide. The bromide can then be used as a target product for organobromine compounds.br>br>

The synthesis of 4-bromo-1-methylpyridinium chloride (a precursor) can be achieved by reacting the dichloride with potassium chloride in liquid ammonia and adding carbon tetrachloride to the reaction mixture. This
