(-)-(1S,5R)-cis-Bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-en-6-one is a ketone that has been found to be produced by the endophytic fungus Phomopsis juniperi in Juniperus species. It is also produced by the fungus Chalconella phomopsis in pine trees, and is an active ingredient for controlling this fungus. (-)-(1S,5R)-cis-Bicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-en-6-one was first synthesized from cyclohexanone and oxygen in 1937 by chemists at Hoffmann La Roche and has been used for many years as a fungicide or insecticide. The compound has been shown to inhibit monooxygenase enzymes, which are involved in the biosynthesis of fatty acids and sterols, leading to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell
