2-[(2-Bromoacetyl)amino]benzophenone is an organic compound that is made synthetically. It has been shown to have cancer cell growth inhibition properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit famesylation, a protein modification process in which the enzyme famesyltransferase introduces a fatty acid (farnesyl) group onto the side chain of amino acids. 2-[(2-Bromoacetyl)amino]benzophenone is also known as "switchable" because it can be synthesized with two different configurations: one form has two bromine atoms on opposite sides and the other has two bromine atoms on adjacent carbons. This switchable property allows for predictable and reproducible reactions, and this synthetic strategy is used in peptidomimetics. The hydrophobic nature of the molecule makes it an ideal ligand for biomolecular interactions.
