- Pyridine, 2-Bromo-3-(Bromomethyl)-
2-Bromo-3-(bromomethyl)pyridine (2BP) is an optical and chiral reagent for the introduction of bromine. It can be used for cross-coupling reactions with a variety of organic molecules, including those containing aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines, and nitro groups. 2BP is also catalytic in its reaction with alkenes and alkynes to produce new chiral molecules. The asymmetric synthesis of 2BP has been shown to be stereoselective and stereogenic. This compound can be used as a transition state analogue to study the mechanism of enzymatic catalysis by acting as a substrate or cofactor analog that mimics the transition state during enzymatic reactions.
