It also has the ability to block the formation of pro-apoptotic proteins in cells. 1-Benzylindole has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells and inflammatory diseases in animal models. The mechanism by which 1-benzylindole inhibits cell proliferation is not yet known, but it may be due to its ability to interfere with growth factor signaling pathways or by binding to palladium-catalyzed coupling sites on DNA. The chemical structure of 1-benzylindole was determined using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectroscopy (MS).
