Hydatid disease is a parasitic infection caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus. It is usually transmitted to humans by the ingestion of eggs, which are found in contaminated food or water. The diagnosis of hydatid disease can be confirmed using serological tests, such as the antibody ELISA and the complement fixation test. Hydatidosis is often diagnosed through dihedral angles, diffraction patterns, and chloride ions on thin-layer chromatography plates. Diagnosis is made with an optical sensor that detects antibodies to hydatid antigens. Hydatid cysts are treated with surgery or chemotherapy; however, these treatments may not be curative for some patients.
