- Thiophene, 2-(Bromomethyl)-
- 2-(Bromomethyl)thiophene
2-Bromomethylthiophene is an organosulfur compound that is used in the cross-coupling reaction with phenylsulfonyl halides to produce terminal alkynes. It can also be used as a ligand for metal complexes, where it acts as a dipole and binds to the metal center by means of electron donation from its methylene group. 2-Bromomethylthiophene can be found in polyester resins, which are used in the production of film and paper. The bromine atom has been shown to bind to dopamine receptors, which may account for some of its biological activity. The optical properties of this molecule have been studied extensively and have shown that it displays strong absorption bands at wavelengths between 350 nm and 450 nm.
