- 3,6-Bis(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-2,5-bis(2-ethylhexyl)pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4(2H,5H)-dione
3,6-Bis(5-bromo-2-thienyl)-2,5-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-2,5-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione is an organic semiconductor that can be used as a catalyst system in organic solar cells. It has been shown to be an efficient acceptor for electron transfer and polymerization. The synthesis of this compound is achieved by the condensation of 2,5-bis(2 ethylhexyl) pyrrolo[3,4c]pyrrole with 5-(bromomethyl)thiophene. This chemical was first synthesized in 1969 and has been extensively studied for its photovoltaic properties since the 1980s.
