4-Bromo-N,N-diethylbenzenesulfonamide (4BDES) is a chlorinating agent that reacts with primary and secondary amines to form sulfonyl chlorides. It is used in the synthesis of sulfonamides. 4BDES can be used to cleave bonds when coupled with an appropriate nucleophile. The oxidative properties of 4BDES are best for the use as a reagent in biomolecular chemistry. It can also be used for the synthesis of sulfonyl chlorides from amines, yielding high yields.
