The benzofuran-2-carboxamide is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects. It provides protection against excitotoxic and excitotoxicity, which are neuronal insults caused by over-stimulation of the neurons. The compound has also been shown to have antidepressant properties and to inhibit the production of sphingolipids in the brain, which are involved in the development of Alzheimer's disease and other diseases. Benzofuran-2-carboxamide also inhibits nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which may be useful in treating high blood pressure by preventing vasoconstriction.
