Boldenone belongs to the group of steroids and is classified as a p2-metabolite. It is an androgenic hormone that binds to androgen receptors in target tissues, leading to physiological responses like muscle growth, increased red blood cell production, or increased libido. Boldenone has been shown to have pathogenic effects on the central nervous system, including the induction of hypersensitivity syndrome in humans. The concentration-time curve for boldenone is linear with a rapid elimination half-life of about 3 hours. This drug can be detected in human serum for up to 72 hours after administration. There are no known toxicological studies on the use of boldenone in humans; however, it has been shown to produce tumours in rats when injected into their brains. To date there are no analytical methods available for the detection of boldenone in human serum without prior extraction and purification.
