Butylate belongs to the class of drugs used to treat metabolic disorders. It is a prodrug that is converted by hydrolysis to its active form, butyric acid. The bound form of butylate has been shown to be effective in vitro assays and can be used as a precursor for solid catalysts. Butylate has been shown to have anticancer effects in vitro and also affects protein synthesis. This drug also inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and has an anti-inflammatory effect.
