5-Bromoquinoline is a quinoline derivative that inhibits bone morphogenetic protein. It has been shown to inhibit the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which may be due to its ability to inhibit gastric acid secretion. 5-Bromoquinoline also has mechanistic properties, which are currently unknown. The reaction solution for this chemical is a complex molecule with an organic amine and bromide ion as ligands, which is reductively eliminated in the presence of glyoxal to form a tribromide. This chemical has not been shown to have any effects on biomolecular processes such as DNA synthesis or transcription or translation.
