1H-Benzimidazole-1,2-diamine (BZDA) is a hypervalent compound with antimycobacterial activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in vitro and in vivo by binding to the DNA gyrase enzyme and interfering with its function. BZDA has also been shown to have antibacterial properties against other bacteria, including some strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae. The antibacterial activity of BZDA is due to its interaction with chloride ions and the subsequent inhibition of bacterial chloride channels. 1H-Benzimidazole-1,2-diamine is a crystalline solid that can be obtained as an oil or as a white powder.
