2-Bromo-2-(2'-chlorophenyl)acetic acid (2BCA) is an organic compound that is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a normalizing agent. It is produced by the reaction of p-toluenesulfonic acid, hydrogen sulfate and hydrochloric acid with 2-bromoethanol and 2,4-dichlorobenzene. The catalytic effect of zinc chloride and magnesium chloride has been shown to be necessary for the production of 2BCA. The reaction time required for this process is three hours at a temperature below 25°C. This product can also be produced industrially using liquid chromatography.
