- Benzoic acid, 2-bromo-3-chloro-
- Bromochlorobenzoic Acid
2-bromo-3-chlorobenzoic acid is a halogenated organic compound that can be synthesized by the reaction of bromine with 2,3-dichlorobenzoyl chloride. It is a strong acid and deprotonates to form bromide ion. The compound attacks lithium metal with the release of hydrogen gas and forms an organolithium compound with lithium diisopropylamide. This reagent can be used to convert alkyl or aryl chlorides into their corresponding bromides. 2-bromo-3-chlorobenzoic acid has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties and may be useful in the treatment of asthma.
