Benzyl L-prolinate is an anticancer drug that belongs to the class of benzyl esters. The anticancer activity of benzyl L-prolinate has been confirmed by amino acid analysis, which revealed a reactive site at the ester hydrochloride. This active form is found in cyclic peptides, which inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis due to their acidic environment. The synthesis of benzyl L-prolinate is based on the reaction between bromobenzene and 3-aminopropionitrile, followed by hydrolysis with alkali. Benzyl L-prolinate also has anti-inflammatory properties, which are due to its ability to inhibit serine proteases such as trypsin, chymotrypsin and elastase.
