Besifovir is an antiviral drug used to treat chronic hepatitis B. It inhibits viral replication by acting as a non-nucleoside inhibitor of the viral polymerase, preventing DNA synthesis and inhibiting the formation of new viruses. Besifovir has been shown to have long-term efficacy in both animal models and clinical studies. In addition, it does not cause any significant side effects in humans, such as hepatic steatosis or renal impairment. Besifovir has also been shown to be safe for use in patients with high body mass index or those with hematological conditions such as herpes simplex virus.
