11H-Benzo[a]fluorene is a functional compound that is used in the synthesis of other organic compounds. This compound is a type of aromatic hydrocarbon and has been shown to be luminescent in the presence of carbon disulphide. 11H-Benzo[a]fluorene can be synthesized by reacting naphthalene with sodium hydroxide in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid. The reaction mechanism is not well understood, but it has been theorized that the functional groups on 11H-benzo[a]fluorene are responsible for the luminescence. It has also been shown that this compound can be bioassayed using a variety of different types of organisms, including bacteria and plants. This chemical has also been shown to have many different isomers due to its large number of double bonds.
