3,9-Bis(octadecyloxy)-2,4,8,10-tetraoxa-3,9-diphosphaspiro[5.5]undecane (BODIPY) is a fluorescent dye that is used in microscopy techniques to detect the presence of water vapor. The redox potentials and water permeability of this compound are low. Redox reactions with hydrogen and hydroxyl groups on the BODIPY molecule lead to the formation of a carbonyl group which has high resistance to hydrogen fluoride. BODIPY is an organic compound that consists of a diphenyl ether and two methyl ethyl groups that are bound by a glycol ester. It has a particle size of about 1 nm.
