Bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-dione is a dioxime derivative that has been shown to have both anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. This compound binds to the l6 cells in the brain and spinal cord, which are involved in pain transmission, and blocks nitric oxide (NO) production. The synthesis of bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-dione involves an aldol cyclization reaction followed by nitration with nitric acid. This compound shows homochirality and can exist as two isomers: cis and trans bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3,7-dione. In addition, it can be synthesized from halogenated starting materials such as chlorobenzene or bromobenzene by reacting them with formaldehyde or acetone respectively in the presence of base catalyst such as potassium hydroxide or sodium methoxide
