It has been used to seal and label polyethylene pipes with dibutyltin dilaurate. 4-Benzoyl-4'-methyldiphenyl sulfide is also an important reagent in the synthesis of 2-hydroxybenzophenone by reacting with benzophenone, 2-methylbenzophenone, or 3-methylbenzophenone. The compound has been analysed by constant temperature chemical ionization mass spectrometry and found to have a molecular weight of 194. The average molar mass calculated from this information is 564.
