The main pharmacological targets of benzydamine are the human liver and alveolar type II cells. This drug has low bioavailability but is metabolized by the liver cells into benzydamine n-oxide which can be excreted through urine or bile. The formation rate of benzydamine n-oxide in the human body is about 2% per hour, which is dependent on the enzyme catalysis.
