It yields a high concentration of acetylcholine in the brain, which may be due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. N-Boc-nortropinone has been shown to bind with both piperidine and acetylcholine receptor sites on leukotriene A4 receptors. The affinity of this drug for the receptor site can be optimized by attaching different substituents at various positions on the molecule.
