1-Bromo-3,7-dimethyloctane is a monomer that can be used in the production of organic light emitting diodes. It is soluble in most solvents and can be used to create optoelectronic devices such as photovoltaic cells. This chemical absorbs light in the ultraviolet and visible regions of the electromagnetic spectrum and emits light in the blue region. The monomer reacts with epoxides to form reactive intermediates that are involved in polymerization reactions. 1-Bromo-3,7-dimethyloctane has been shown to have luminescence properties, which are dependent on its regioselectivity. This monomer also undergoes selective epoxidation at carbon 4 (C4) during synthesis. The optical band gap for this compound is 3.2 eV, which is suitable for use in an optoelectronic device or photovoltaic cell.
