5-Bromo-3-ethylsalicylaldehyde is a β-adrenergic receptor agonist that has been shown to have non-selective biological activity. 5-Bromo-3-ethylsalicylaldehyde binds to the β-adrenergic receptor and activates it, causing an increase in intracellular cyclic AMP levels. The activation of the β2 receptor leads to bronchodilation, while the activation of the β1 receptor leads to vasodilation. This chemical also has some antiinflammatory effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
