6-Bromopyridin-2-yl)methanol is a brominating reagent used in the synthesis of histidine and cyanuric acid. It has been shown to bind to metal ions via chelate ring, phenyl groups, and skeletal interactions. 6-Bromopyridin-2-yl)methanol forms ether linkages with carboxylic acid groups, making it an excellent solvent for ionic compounds. This compound also has optical properties that are dependent on the chloride counterion. 6-Bromopyridin-2-yl)methanol is bioinorganic and cryogenic, which makes it useful in hydrogen bonding probes.
