- BCECF-acetoxymethy
2',7'-bis(2-Carboxyethyl)-5(6)-carboxyfluorescein acetoxymethyl ester Mixed isomers (BCECF) is a fluorescent probe that can be used to measure the mitochondrial membrane potential. BCECF has been shown to have a high affinity for the acidic environment of the mitochondria, and it accumulates in cells with low mitochondrial membrane potentials. BCECF has been used to study the effect of apoptosis on tumor cells, as well as in other studies of cell death and survival. It has also been used to study the effects of transplants on cardiac tissue. The BCECF probe is often used in conjunction with other probes that emit at different wavelengths, such as tetramethylrhodamine ethyl ester (TMR).
