- (R)-4-Bromostyrene Oxide
(R)-4-Bromostyrene oxide is an enantiopure epoxide that has been shown to be a valuable chiral building block for the synthesis of biologically active molecules. The optical purity of (R)-4-bromostyrene oxide can be determined by Hplc analysis. It is an exocyclic epoxide that reacts with nucleophiles such as guanosine, forming a cycloaddition product. The mechanism of this reaction involves the formation of an ionic intermediate and the attack of the nucleophile on the electrophilic carbon atom. This leads to a stereoselective reaction in which one product is formed in high yield and the other product is formed in low yield.
