Bromelain is a mixture of proteolytic enzymes that is used as a food additive and in medicine. Bromelain has been shown to have anti-cancer properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the growth of tumor cells by preventing the activation of cancer-promoting genes. Bromelain also has a protective effect on the lungs, where it can prevent lung damage by reducing the accumulation of mucus in the respiratory tract. Bromelain has been shown to have anticancer activity through its ability to inhibit tumor growth, prevent metastasis, and induce apoptosis in cancer cells. Bromelain also displays enzyme preparations with functional groups that are largely dependent upon pH and temperature for their structure and reactivity.
