1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium terafluoroborate is an ionic liquid that has been used in a number of research applications. It is an ionic compound that consists of a cation and an anion. In the solid state, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium terafluoroborate exists as dimers with tetrafluoroborate as the counterion. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system and has a melting point of about 70°C. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium terafluoroborate has been shown to exhibit high thermal stability and electrochemical properties, which are important for its use as a solvent in reactions involving organic compounds.
