- 7-Bromo-1-Benzothiophene
7-Bromobenzothiophene is a chemical compound that can be used as a coupling reagent in organic chemistry. It has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of biologically active compounds, such as anilines and organolithium compounds. 7-Bromobenzothiophene is also able to react with acetonitrile to produce reactive intermediates which are able to form covalent bonds with nucleophiles. This is important for the synthesis of diverse molecules, such as pharmaceuticals, polymers, and fluorescent dyes. The mechanism of this reaction has been investigated using photophysical methods and found to involve ns5b polymerase. The polymerase molecule catalyzes the formation of RNA by using DNA as a template. 7-Bromobenzothiophene has also been shown to inhibit hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication, although it does not inhibit the virus itself.
