The purified product can then be crystallized from trifluoroacetic acid or acetic anhydride, followed by backpressure to remove excess solvent. It has been shown that binding constants for metal ions are increased in the presence of p-hydroxybenzoic acid or biphenyl, which has led to its use as a catalyst for reactions involving these substances.
