4-Bromo-D-phenylalanine is a catalyst that can be used for the synthesis of esters. It is prepared by the reaction of sodium borohydride with a methylester, followed by reaction with thionyl chloride and hydrochloric acid. This product has a high yield and can be used in various organic syntheses. 4-Bromo-D-phenylalanine can also be used to synthesize phenylmagnesium bromide from magnesium and bromobenzene, or to produce methyl esters from carboxylic acids such as malonic acid and calcium chloride.
