1,3-Benzenedisulfonic acid is a sulfonation agent that belongs to the group of fluorosulfonic acids. It is used in the synthesis of organic compounds such as pharmaceuticals. 1,3-Benzenedisulfonic acid can be used to generate resistant mutants for research purposes. It also inhibits enzymatic activity by binding to DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase, inhibiting transcription and translation. The inhibitory effects of 1,3-benzenedisulfonic acid are reversible after it has been removed. 1,3-Benzenedisulfonic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in model systems and functional assays. This drug is also used as a reagent in structural analysis reactions.
