- 3-(3-Thienyl)Thiophene
3,3'-Bithiophene is a functional theory analog of thiophene. It can be synthesized in a stereogenic fashion by allylation of styrene with allyl bromide and ethyl diazoacetate in the presence of a chiral organocatalyst. 3,3'-Bithiophene is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds. The molecule has been observed to have vibrational and optical properties that are mediated by the three-dimensional structure. The asymmetric synthesis route also allows for the production of enantiomerically pure 3,3'-bithiophene, which can be useful for stereochemical studies.
