Boc-4-iodo-D-phenylalanine is a synthetic compound that has anticancer activity. It inhibits the growth of glioblastoma cells by binding to DNA and inhibiting transcriptional activity. The drug also inhibits synthesis of proteins, which may be due to its inhibition of factor receptor and allosteric inhibition of glutamine synthetase. Boc-4-iodo-D-phenylalanine can be synthesized from hydrochloric acid and an aryl boronic acid in the presence of a base, such as potassium carbonate. This conversion is known as cross coupling. The reaction rate for this synthesis depends on the type and amount of organometallic reagent used.
