Boc-S-tert-butyl-L-cysteine is a thioanisole that can be used to synthesize disulfide bonds. It reacts with the nucleophile, such as H2O, HSO3H, or HOCl, to form a bond between two molecules. This reaction is an acid-catalyzed reaction in which the sulfoxide group of Boc-S-tert-butyl-L-cysteine reacts with water and the nucleophile to form a hydrosulfide ion. The sulfoxide group of Boc-S-tert-butyl-L-cysteine then reacts with the nucleophile, forming a disulfide bond.
