N-alpha-Boc-N-alpha-methyl-D-phenylalanine is a modification of the amino acid phenylalanine. It can inhibit cancer cell growth and has been shown to be effective against human nasopharyngeal carcinoma. N-alpha-Boc-N-alpha-methyl-D-phenylalanine was found to be more potent than methyl anthranilate in inhibiting tumor growth, suggesting that it could be used as an anticancer drug. This compound also has inhibitory effects on pressor responses in rats and humans, although no structural analogues have been found for this activity. The presence of a hydrophobic methyl group at position alpha leads to the formation of a chloride byproduct during synthesis, making this compound difficult to synthesize.
