- Bz-DL-Met-OH
Benzoyl-DL-methionine (BzM) is a nitrogenous compound that can be found in many foods, such as eggs and dairy products. BzM is a natural substance that can be produced by irradiation of n-acetyl-dl-methionine with singlet oxygen. BzM has been used as an optical probe for the study of microbial activity and as a disinfectant for surfaces contaminated with bacteria. It is also used as an active substance in buffers for various biochemical experiments. The deamination of BzM produces thiolactone, which reacts with singlet oxygen to produce hydrogen peroxide, a powerful oxidizing agent.
